You Must Be a Fruit Bearer

John 15:4

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

Every believer is called to serve Christ. This means we must be effective in our service. To bear fruit, we must be humble, submissive, and obedient to the One Who laid down His life for us on Calvary’s Cross.

We must obey God’s Word and follow the principles given to us, “…which if a man do, he shall even live in them;” (Ezekiel 20:21).

The Obedient Servant

Everyone knows that a good employee often receives benefits which will encourage that person to remain in that employment. We are aware that not every employer is honest, so that even when an individual does his or her best, this might go unnoticed. The idea is that you are hired give your very best for the benefit of the business or organization. With the believer, God will never overlook any work that is done. Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have showed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

God will always honour obedience no matter how small the effort. The obedient servant of will always bear fruit because that person is conscious of his or her call to service by God. The individual will not work as an hireling; but instead will make every effort to please God through obedience to His Commandments. When we plant, we expect to reap from our labour. One grain will result in more grains at the time of harvest. No one labours without expecting some gain.

Therefore, when we plant seeds in the garden of God, we will be rewarded by the harvest which will result. Jesus said: Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. (John 15:4). We must be obedient to bear fruit which will remain, and or the glory of God.

The Disobedient Servant

The believer who does not obey God’s Word cannot bear fruit. People who take pleasure in making excuses for their sins, will never accomplish anything worthwhile for the benefit of the self or anyone else. Those persons would rather seek for the easy way out [taking the broad way], instead of abiding in the Vine even though this means persecutions and trials. John 15:6 If a man abides not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

This may sound harsh, but this is the Word of God. We must cannot live a life of service to the Lord without being fruitful. Unless we abide in the Vine, we will perish. Everyone must make the choice to serve the Lord in Spirit and in truth. Failing this, the individual is a failure and will have no part with Christ in eternity.

Obedience is the key for fruit bearing. We remain attached to the Vine, if we are obedient to Him. As a branch we need substance, which means we must remain faithful and obedient to be of any value in the service of the Lord. Moreover, effective fruit bearing will influence the world and lead sinners to repentance.

How do We Bear Fruit?

Everything we desire in this life, calls for effort: sweat, hard work, effort, determination, and so forth. We must give of ourselves; whether through earnest study or doing whatever is necessary to obtain the life which we desire that will give us peace of mind and reasonable contentment. Similarly, to be successful in bearing fruit, we must observe the following:

You must Practice Reliability: How often are you available for service? You must Practice Regular Church Attendance: Do you attend prayer meetings, Bible study, and regular church service? Are you only a Sunday worshipper; church-goer; regular tithe payer; or big giver and believe that these will buy you a place in God’s Kingdom when Jesus comes? You must Study and Know the Word: Do you know the Word? How much time do you spend in study? The Word cleanses and purifies (John 15:3) if we accept it by being obedient. You must not be involved with Apostasy: What is apostasy? What did Jesus and the Apostles say about its presence in the church? You must turn Away from Worldliness: Have you turned away from the world and its attractions with the intention to serve the Lord? You must have a Renewed Mind: What do you understand by being “Born Again,” and the effect on the life of the believer? The Holy Spirit renews the mind through the process of sanctification (Romans 12:1-2; Titus 3:5).

This is where we begin in order to be attached to the True Vine – Jesus Christ. Every branch that does not bear fruit becomes useless to Christ and His work; that branch is cut off and thrown out. In the Laodician church world today, you will find many dead branches which are fruitless. Some are spiritually sick, with all kinds of spiritual diseases from the types of germs being spread around in the churches in the name of Christianity. Those persons have lost their fervour if they ever had any.

It is indeed, time for repentance. Let us not look at the sins of the world. Turn your eyes on the inside; in the church and see the evil which prevail in many of those organizations. Pastors are no longer called by their titles; but they are now CEOs. The church is now a business. There is much more that could be said. It is time for leaders to return to their first love Jesus Christ and preaching the true Word of God (Revelations 1-3).
