Obey God’s Word

John 2:1-5 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

In the text above, Jesus and His disciples were invited to a wedding when the wine ran out. Obviously, this was not a good sign for either side of the family [bride or groom]. Mary and Jesus must have had a good relationship as mother and son for her to have gone to Him to ask for help. No doubt she knew of His capabilities in those early days before Jesus presented Himself to the world.

Consequently, she felt comfortable asking Him to help in such a critical situation. Despite His initial response, which was not a rebuke, but cultural, He did something most extraordinary to those who were present. After going to Jesus to assist in the situation, Mary did not hesitate, but immediately spoke to the servants with instructions to do whatsoever He told them to do, which they obeyed to the letter. In the end, they were rewarded because the result of their obedience revealed the authority Jesus had as the Son of God at the initial stage of His ministry.

Obedience, faith and trust are critical to God’s response to our needs. We may not have our prayers or requests answered immediately. However, what is most important is that we obey God’s instructions so that He gets the glory.

You might be going through a trying situation which God has already given you instructions concerning what to do and how to recover; but you have doubted what you heard. You have delayed your response and obedience due to lack of faith. Unbelief is a hindrance to receiving God’s blessings (Hebrew 11:6). If you have doubts about God’s instructions, there will be hesitation until your hope and expectations become dismal. Maybe it is time to take another look at what you were told concerning your next step, and follow whatever God tells you to do!

Obedience is better than to offer sacrifice!

Whatever He tells you to do, do it!
