God cannot fail
no matter how long we have to wait!
We can be assured that when God makes a promise to anyone, He will keep it. Unlike humans who fail, God will never fail. When we think of Abraham, God called him out from his country and made some very extraordinary promises to Him (Genesis 12, 15). Although it may have seemed an extremely long time for those promises to be fulfilled, yet God kept His word. God cannot fail no matter how long we have to wait.
The Promise
Hebrews 6:13-14 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he swore by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
A promise is a pledge to do something for someone. It is not effective until both parties are in agreement to the offer and acceptance. In this case, God guaranteed the promise by swearing on Himself, because there is none greater than He. Whatever He has promised you, there is every hope that it will be fulfilled. You have the assurance of His Word which does not fail (Psalm 12:6; Isaiah 55:8-11).
Since a promise is a future intention, no one knows when God will carry out His purpose, but it will be accomplished according to His will. All we have to do is to patiently wait in faith and with hope which is an anchor of the soul (Hebrews 6:19). It is what we have on which to hold as we wait with expectancy.
Patience
Hebrews 6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness (Genesis 15:6), because He took the word of a holy God at heart and accepted it. Abraham did not delay in accepting the promise because He believed that what God had promised, He was able to perform (Numbers 23:19).
Abraham was indeed extremely patient. He waited 25 years from the day God spoke to him, until the fulfillment of the promise (Genesis 15; Genesis 21). How long are we willing to wait upon God? Do we give God an ultimatum when we believe that we have waited long enough?
What is patience? Patience concerning a promise made by God is a state of quiet contentment of trust, faith, confidence, and complete assurance with determination not to falter no matter what comes. To humans 25 years may seem to be a long time that he waited. Maybe you have been waiting for a long time to have a promise realized; but time is in God’s hands and He does not mark it. We have time set up in seasons, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. These have no meaning to God.
Let us just trust God’s promises and know that He will fulfill them no matter how long it takes. God’s word is true and will always prove to be so.
