God’s Weapons of Protection
There are people who use security systems to protect their homes. There is a reason for all of this. When they set up an account, the homeowner will ask all kinds of questions because that person is thinking about safety of self and family members. They want to keep out intruders.
Therefore, there will be questions about the security, the way it operates, and what kinds of protection that particular company gives. What is also most important is the reliability of the equipment that will be installed.
Similarly, we hear that God protects His people, we will have questions concerning how this done.
Here are a few ways in which God protects His people because He loves and cares for us.
Weapons of Protection
God protects us in many ways by giving us various weapons to use against the enemy who tries to distract or mislead us. Those weapons are not only for protection, but also for warfare. Sickness is an attack whatever the source. It is at such times we need God’s presence and to see His word come alive. When troubles visit, the aim is to disturb our peace. Despite the turmoils around, God’s peace which passes all understanding will guard our hearts and minds.
Peace
God’s protective power gives us peace, consolation, and contentment so that we are able to trust Him under any situation. God’s peace keeps us from worry and fear. It guards our mind away from things, which will cause us to murmur and complain. Instead, we trust in God and depend on His loving-kindnesses and mercies. If we keep our minds on the Lord, His peace will saturate our heart and mind [Isaiah 26:3-4, Philippians 4:7]. Jesus Christ brought peace by breaking down the walls between God and us [Ephesians 2:14].
When God’s peace resides in our hearts, there will be no place for anxiety, which often leads to stress and depression. We will not feel at any time that God has forsaken or abandoned us because we trust in Jehovah who is our refuge, strength, guide, and protector. God’s peace will remind us of His love toward His creation.
Love
We read in the Bible that God sent His only begotten Son into the world to die for our sins, because of His great love towards mankind [John 3:16]. Still, how often do we think of God being a loving Father. One who cares for us and keeps us daily. God so loved the world, shows a love, which is incomparable to any kind of love we have ever known, or will ever know. This love is remarkable and is unceasing. Even when we sin and turn to God to ask forgiveness, He is willing and ready to forgive the penitent who seeks Him [Isaiah 55:6-7]. God’s love for mankind should make each one of us love one another, especially those who are Christians.
We did not do anything good to deserve God’s Son. We were sinners, condemned to die; Yet, He loved us [Romans 5:8]. We did not inherit this love from Him through our parents. Instead, this love He gives freely to those who will accept.
One reason we can think of why God sent His only Son into the world to die for sinners is to protect us from eternal damnation. If the Lord Jesus had not come, we would all be eternally separated from God because of inherited sin from Adam.
Still, although this love is free, yet there are those who do not see the necessity of accepting Jesus Christ as their indwelling personal Saviour. Many do not believe that He is God’s Son. However, to as many who believe and receive Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God [John 1:12-13].
Accepting Jesus Christ in our lives, cause us to recover the protection we once had before the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. God’s love gives us protection and makes us secure and firm in the knowledge that Someone cares us. Even when our bodies break down, our spirits are alive with God.
There are two important features about God’s love towards us. The first is that this love is not partial. He calls everyone [John 3:16-16], and turns away no one. God is love not only in Spirit, but also in practicality. He planted His love into our hearts [Romans 5:5], which states, “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”
Second, God’s love is unconditional because He sent His Son in a world of sin to die for sinners. In [Romans 5:6-8] we read, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die…But God commend his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” This passage sums up the depth, breath, and height of God’s great love for us.
God had great compassion for us so that He extends His mercy beyond our sins by overlooking them, and forgiving us. It took unconditional love to bring us to a saving grace by accepting Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the Bible teaches that love covers a multitude of sins [I Peter 4:8]. Clearly then, God’s love gives us protection, not just to cover our sins, but also to forgive us from all unrighteousness.
God cannot fail. Trust in Him!
