Grace Greater than all our Sins
II Corinthians 13:14
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
The grace of God came through Jesus Christ (John 1:14). Grace is God’s special gift to all those who will receive Jesus Christ Who came to earth full of grace and truth. You may wonder about this awesome gift to mankind and why it is so important to our steadfastness in serving the Lord. Indeed, grace is a supernatural gift which enables those who follow Christ to remain faithful even in the times of distress and troubles.
Paul had a thorn in His flesh (II Corinthians 12). When he prayed to be delivered from this troublesome situation, Jesus told him that His grace was sufficient to keep him, and did not remove the offending situation.
II Corinthians 12:8-9 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
To many this may have seemed cruel and inhumane. Not so! This was not the intention. The main idea was to reveal to Paul another aspect of the powerful function of grace: “Keeping Grace” which, with faith, and through the power of the Holy Spirit will sustain the believer, so that he or she continues to trust God even when His plans are not made evident.
When we received Jesus, this was “Saving Grace” (Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:)” What Jesus gave to Paul during his time of distress was “Keeping Grace,” “Sustaining Grace or Enabling Grace,” which supports and helps us to remain faithful in the midst of life’s changing scenes; whatever format these take. God’s grace will keep us in all situations, but we like Paul, must accept it.
Keeping Grace will give us courage in times of uncertainty and enable us to remain faithful to an unfailing God. Although we may have to go through the valleys, He will be there with the full power and strength of His Keeping Grace through the anointing and work of the Holy Spirit.
