Matthew 7:21-23

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Does Jesus Know You? Do you Know Him?

I never knew you!!!!

Do you have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ? Does He know you? Are you confident that He knows you? What gives you the assurance that your name is recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life? What makes you sure that the work you do is acceptable to God?

Let us begin with our relationship with Jesus Christ? Every [true] believer in Christ is presented with a proposition in the form of a statement (Luke 9:23; Luke 13:24-30). The message in this text, and throughout the Christian experience is the Cross. “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Notice that Christianity is a personal undertaking, but never private. Does Jesus Know You? Do you Know Him?

Our relationship begins with Self-denial. There is no suggestion of works or gifts other than giving of yourself to the Lord. This is not for self-glorification or fame because Jesus did not display any of those behaviours. To have a relationship with Jesus Christ, must begin with self-denial; which initially may seem easy for some without taking time to find out what this entails. Does Jesus Know You? Do you Know Him?

The second requirement is taking up your Cross (Luke 9:23). The cross signifies suffering, trials, tests, persecutions, and more which identify us with Jesus Christ. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23. Many will come to him on that day, and declare all that they ever did for Him. His response will be, “I never knew you.” The cross will be your passport to glory and eternal life with the Lord. Jesus will be able to recognize you because you bear in your body the signs of the crucifixion. “From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus” (Galatians 6:17). “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). What is your mark of identification which proves the authenticity of your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ? It does not matters where you travel; when you are about to board that plane you will be asked for your identification. When you go to certain places such as the doctor’s office, government offices, or making a purchase and so much more; you must present an identification. Therefore, Jesus is looking for your identification which is the cross; and it begins here while you are on earth. This where the new birth took place. You were sealed on that day by the Holy spirit (Ephesians 1:13ff). With natural birth, from the day of delivery that child is given some form of identification; and he or she must be registered with a name. That name stays with the child until the day when he or she passes this life. Does Jesus Know You? Do you Know Him?

The third requirement is Obedience which means that every true believer must purpose in the heart to follow the Lord with sincerity, truthfulness, honesty, humility, submissiveness, integrity and faithfulness. These are necessary qualities akin to obedience. Obedience attracts two other major qualities which depict sincere love ,and readiness to forgiveness. The obedient follower of Christ will forgive and avoid holding a grudge against anyone. Does Jesus Know You? Do you Know Him?

Fourth, you must Choose the right road that leads to the right gate, which is narrow and fraught with difficulties, and all the attachments of bearing the cross. Jesus said, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). When you have taken up your cross and obediently follow Christ, He shows you which of the two gates to enter. There are only two gates; each with its own size, description, functions, structure and offerings. Does Jesus Know You? Do you Know Him?

The fifth requirement, you must Know the voice of Jesus. After you have fulfilled all the initial requirements, you will be tempted to follow the voice of the enemy (Matthew 4). Jesus is reminding us to know His voice so that we do not follow Satan’s voice. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any (man) pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave (them) me, is greater than all; and no (man) is able to pluck (them) out of my Father’s hand” (Luke 10:27-29). You will be safe in the arms of Jesus as you lean on His gentle breast. He will protect you.

Not only must we know the voice of Jesus, but He knows us by our identification. “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd” (John 10:14, 16). The fact that Jesus recognizes us here on earth, suggests that we have a certain mark which differentiates us from other sheep. Does Jesus Know You? Do you Know Him?

Every believer should take heed! This is no time for playing church. Too many false prophets, self-titled apostles and prophets are deceiving the world and God’s people. It is time for repentance and turning away from witchcraft. Yes, witchcraft and the worshipping of the Baals of money, greed, and fame. How many more planes can you purchase with [other] people’s money which you squeezed out of their hands? The ploy [deception] is “Sow a seed.” How many more homes can you buy? How many more cars do you need while others are suffering, dying of thirst and starving for the word? In the meantime you are accumulating wealth; and some of you charging thousands of dollars to make a lot of noises which you call preaching from your mechanical toy with new age scriptural interpretation and not from the King James Bible.

You have the opportunity to repent and turn away from the beggarly elements of sin and its bondage of destruction (Galatians 4:9; Hebrews 12:1). Sin is destructive and will lead you into hell. Maybe you forgot that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23); but this is paid in the fires of hell where there will be no repentance. Return to your first love, and begin to do the first works again (Revelation 2:4ff). Ministry is about the saving of souls and not the acquisition of wealth. Jesus is coming back. Does Jesus know you? Do you know Him?
